SCDDSN

South Carolina Department of Disabilities and Special Needs (SCDDSN)

SCDDSN is the official state agency that plans, develops, oversees, and funds services for South Carolinians with severe, lifelong disabilities, including intellectual disabilities, autism, traumatic brain injury, spinal cord injury, and conditions related to these conditions. Its mission is to assist people with disabilities and their families in meeting needs, pursuing possibilities and achieving life goals, and to minimize the occurrence and reduce the severity of disabilities through prevention.

SCDDSN works closely with DCEC, believing that people with disabilities are unique, each with his/her own needs, wants, desires, and dreams. SCDDSN and DCEC believe that generally, they want the same thing from life that we all do – an interesting and meaningful daily life; close relationships with others; opportunities to socialize, enjoy recreation, and develop their talents and abilities; a chance to realize their dreams; to be a part of and contribute to their communities; and to feel that they are valuable and important.
