My eyes were open to a whole new world while volunteering at DCEC. I have realized that DCEC enables children and their families to lead as normal a life as possible for them. The love and care these children receive is amazing. The children’s growth is phenomenal. I continue to volunteer on a regular basis and love seeing the children grow socially and mentally. They are so precious and I treasure my time with them.
DCEC has been in operation as long as I have practiced pediatrics in Anderson. When the decision was made for DCEC to move from state funding to private funding due to budget cuts, I was asked to be on the Board of Directors. I knew that this would be an important job as the Board would need to find sources of funding in order to keep DCEC in operation. DCEC is the only preschool in Anderson County that can serve special needs infants and toddlers. The children can also receive all their therapy at the school. Without DCEC in our community, these children may not receive all the services that they need. Serving on the Board has been a challenge at times and a lot of hard work. However, when you walk into the center and you see the faces of the children, it is all worth it. We are blessed with a wonderful staff, a great director, and good therapists. It is my hope that we can sustain DCEC for future generations.Andrea Draisen
